Ink painting
Gadô – The path of the painting
画道
KAI’s attitude while painting with ink and brush is contemplative.
He sees painting as a way to connect with the universe,
the perfection of silence, and the life force of ‘Qi’.
While painting, KAI traverses inner and outer landscapes
and brings them to paper with the power of brush and ink.
His attitude during painting is characterized
by devotion to the present moment, mindfulness, and being.
KAI sees paper as the carrier, the brush as the creator,
the ink as the body, and movement as the trail:
Together they form the path of the painting.
KAI loves Japanese and Chinese ink paintings.
He has spent a lot of time in museums from Zurich to Paris, Amsterdam, Hamburg to London,
and in temples from Kyoto to Tokyo, looking at ink paintings of landscapes.
These images fascinate, soothe and inspire him.
For KAI, the process of painting and the focus on breathing and movement
are just as important as the image itself.
Painting is meditation for him.
The same goes for him when looking at an ink painting.
Contemplation, the process of deep observation,
and the attentiveness of the viewer are crucial.
The painting is born for the first time by the painter
and for the second time by the viewer.
Let yourself be enchanted by the calming power of KAI’s ink paintings
by taking a few minutes to immerse yourself
in one of the images and wander through it with your gaze and mind.
